Press Release: New European Feed Safety Network

Professionals in the feed industry have a new platform to share news, exchange ideas and discuss the latest developments in pathogen control.

Hosted on LinkedIn by global experts in clean feed technology, Anitox, the group’s aim is to enhance feed and food safety as well as livestock performance across the continent.

“Despite the progress made by the EU’s integrated approach to food safety from farm to fork, more than 90,000 cases of Salmonella are reported to the EFSA each year,” acknowledges Jorge Trindade, EMEA’s Sales Director at Anitox. “Salmonella is the most frequently reported cause of foodborne outbreaks with known origin in the EU. Salmonella can thrive in both feed and raw materials. From feed, this pathogenic bacteria can infect livestock and enter to the food chain where its impacts can be huge.

“The European Feed Safety Network (EFSN) is a space where those who can effect change can find the latest research, discuss the practicalities of implementing best-practice and discuss new ways of protecting feed and food. Collaboration is a powerful tool in addressing complex challenges, and we’re proud to be able to facilitate reasoned debate, deeper insights and fresh-thinking.”

Individuals working in feed ingredient processing, poultry and swine production, feed mills, as well as nutrition, veterinary and regulation are all welcome to the group.

Alongside effecting change within the industry, members will have access to exclusive content and industry influencers, giving them the opportunity to expand their own professional networks.  

“Europe already has world-leading standards, mechanisms and processes, yet feed continues to be a fomite for pathogens such as Salmonella, Clostridia, African Swine Fever virus, Porcine Epidemic Diarrhoea virus and Avian Influenza virus,” said Mr Trindade. “Together, through the EFSN, we can partner to lower incidences, improve livestock performance and the safety of both feed and food.”
